Darin, I'm sure you will be relieved to know that the construction of your network attached storage device is in the capable hands of our 21 month old.

For anyone who might be wondering, the device in the picture is a Synology model DS210j Network Attached Storage Device. It holds 2 3.5" SATA drives internally and can have external USB 2.0 drives attached for expansion. We configured it with (2) 2TB Hitachi 7200RPM drives mirrored for redundancy. I only had a short time to play with it before deploying it, but performance seemed excellent and the included Linux based operating system is well designed and very feature rich. While most of the case is plastic, it is well designed, looks nice and has plenty of air flow to keep it cool. While it does cost a bit more then some of it's competitors, the price is a great deal considering the quality, speed and features found in the DS210j.
