Day 7 of Project 365

Okay, big news of the day: Jenica went poo poo in her potty today! Don't worry, I didn't photograph it, although the thought did briefly cross my mind until I remembered how many embarrassing moments came out of the poo of mine that my dad photographed when I was a kid. Apparently I was very proud of the fact that it was "shaped like a C - just like our last name" or something like that. I would have to clarify with him to get the exact story, but anyway... moving on... As proud as I am of Jenica's poo, it did not, in fact, make the photo of the day.


Today's photo (well, actually two photo's because my wonderful friend Emelye had to be included) was taken at the Portland Children's Museum where we went on our morning outing. If you've never been there, you should check it out! It's lots of fun. Actually, if you want to check it out, you should invite me and Jenica along. We can get a guest in free with our membership and children under 1 are free!

Day 6 of Project 365

Okay, I had another photo all picked out and ready to be the photo of the day today, but then Jenica went and had a monumental moment and I, of course, couldn't pass up the opportunity to use her picture instead! Tonight, at just over 16 months old, she went pee pee on her potty for the first time. Okay, I better explain a little more before you start thinking that I'm some sort of super mom for starting potty training before she's even a year and a half old... We got her a potty for Christmas with the intentions of just starting to talk to her about it for now, but she's still very much in diapers. However, I decided it would be fun to let her sit on it before she gets in the bath at night. She usually pees anyway either right before or right after she gets in the tub so I figured, why not? She didn't do anything the first time I set her on it, but tonight when Daddy set her on the potty before bath time, well what do you know... she went pee pee! So there you have it! More coincidence than anything else but still a proud moment for her parents none the less. She was rewarded greatly with lots of praise and a cookie that she got to eat in the bath tub, which really made more of a mess than anything else, but hey, we had to do something special for the kid, right?

Day 5 of Project 365

Well, I could have taken a picture of the extremely overcrowded gym tonight... all the New Years Resolutioners trying to burn off those extra pounds, or the 4 story parking garage that was completely full, but I thought this picture of Jenica snuggling with her daddy while I was gone working out and having girl time with my friend was a much cuter photo for my book. No, I didn't take the photo. Rob took it with his iPhone and sent it to me via text message, but that's okay... he can be part of Project 365 too :) Thanks honey!

Day 4 of Project 365

Jenica's friend Judah came over tonight to play and was sweet enough to give her kisses on the cheek! Such a sweet little boy, but the picture didn't really show off his cuteness so I practiced some fancy effects in photoshop to get his face in my "picture of the day" as well! Thanks Judah!

Day 3 of Project 365

So far I am on track for both of my 2010 goals: To take a picture a day and to read through the bible chronologically. Of course it's only the 3rd day of the year but hopefully by sharing my goals with you it will serve as some accountability to stay on track!

Day 2 of Project 365

Day 2 turned out to be a bit more challenging than day 1. What should I take a picture of on a day that nothing really that photo worthy occurred? I tried taking pictures of Jenica playing with her Lego's, or playing with play dough for the first time, but none of those seemed worthy of representing the day. I shared my dilemma with Rob as he was leaving to do some work on our condo. He suggested that I could come with him and take a picture of him working, which did sound like a good idea but the thought of loading up myself and a 16 month old in the car just to take one photo didn't seem appealing on a dark and wet January evening. As he was leaving, he shut the door behind him and behold, my eyes fell upon our "wall of Christmas cards". It was perfect! We not only love to do a family photo Christmas card every year but we love getting them from people and taping them up to enjoy through out December, and obviously beyond since I am photographing said wall on what is now the 2nd of January. It is a great reminder of all the wonderful friends and family we have in our lives. Having your pictures on our wall (or in this case, our door) for a month or so out of the year is a great reminder for us to pray for you and just thank God for whatever roll it is you may play in our lives.... from friends and relatives to pastors and clients.... we are so thankful for you all. So before all the cards come down and the door becomes, well, just another door, I thought it appropriate to photograph all the photographs of you and give this special tradition a place in my 2010 Project 365 Photobook.

Project 365

I heard about project 365 last year from some of my scrapbooking friends and thought it sounded like a fun idea. However, the year had already started and so I decided to wait until 2010 to give it a try for myself. The premise: take a photo every day of the year. In doing so, you capture moments and parts of your life that you might not otherwise remember, and by forcing yourself to take a picture every day you inevitably increase your photography skills at the same time. So I'm giving it a shot. No guarantees that I will have time to post every picture, but I plan to make a photobook with every day's picture in it so the "project" will be documented. Here's yesterdays picture:

We were supposed to go snowshoeing but the weather said that it was going to be warm and slushy up on the mountain so we decided to have a lazy day at home instead. Our friends Fabrice and Jessica came over and watched the Rose Bowl with us. My Alma Mater, the Oregon Ducks were going up against the Ohio State Buckeyes and although they weren't able to pull off a win it was still a great game to watch.
